Meditation played a huge role during my battle with ovarian cancer and continues to be part of my daily life. During treatment, meditation helped me with the emotional and physical effects of chemotherapy.
- Renews strength in the body
- Continues to lower stress in the body
- Changes the chemistry of the body- activating the parasympathetic nervous system
- Helps us to get in touch with our inner selves- to help quiet the mind chatter
While there are many different types of meditation, Focused Meditation is one type, which can be easily mastered. The key here is to just focus on a sound, object or thought and stay committed to that one thought or object. During my chemo treatments, this was accomplished through coloring. You are never too old to color; you will be quite surprised how relaxing and calming this can be. I highly recommend Coloring Mandalas, For Insight, Healing and Self-Expression, by Susanne F. Fincher.
